[How do you approach the Daywalker at a party??? This question is painted all over Taning's face as he hovers near the edge of Riley's personal space (which, considering his stature, is quite a big space indeed), looking for all the world like someone who wants to ask for his autograph. What he wants to talk to him about isn't quite something he knows how to approach him about, let alone talk to him about. Hence, the trepidation.
It is a nice time for a nice vampire lord to save the socially struggling mage. His scent should be begging PLEASE NOTICE ME, by now.]
[ Be it far from him to say this out loud, but really, Estanislao, you're being quite true to the little nickname that your blade has been... what is the word -- oh, yes: dinged with.
Come along, pup. ] Mr. Marasigan, would you like to join me for a cigar?
[ Yes, you have his attention. And yes, that is one offered your way. ]
[Welp. He looks startled, and then not-hurries over. It wouldn't do to lose his composure, not one bit. Kindhearted though he may be, the Daywalker is still a predator at heart.
Besides, he doesn't need to spill blood to... spill blood, ifyouknowwhatimean.]
Be glad to, sir, and I must say, it is good to see you up and about.
[ He's cutting both cigars as he says that and then offers the one he'd pulled out for you your way.
Lighting up now, and cutting to the chase. ]
You looked like you wanted to speak with me. [ A chuckle now. ] Pardon my directness, but I do hope you don't mind that I am.
[ No need to be wishy-washy around him. That you are the pupil of the Searing Wind's Assassin is telling. That you are the third of the Hounds is also interesting. That, and he's had extensive experience where it concerns mages of your line. ]
[He'll take that as a "yes", then, thankyouverymuch...]
He had introduced me to his family, Father Clay- Aidan, did. And I swore I would try to be a friend to him. A friend who would help ground him to the human condition, of sorts. Kind of like [He laughs a little at himself.] a humanity sherpa.
[That actually makes him laugh, because honestly, how he is a friend to those he cares about might not fly well with that one.
I turn their clothes pink, constantly rib them about their sex lives, get them drunk, get them high, laugh at their antics when drunk or high, respect their distance when they'd rather be alone, and then troll them right again when they seem to be getting better, help kill their enemies for them, and constantly be the devil on their shoulder telling them that they might think they're right, but then they might not be, and then support them anyway.
[He was ticking those off on his fingers as he was talking, looking up at the ceiling, and when he is done his eyes come back down level with yours, as he is sheepishly grinning.]
Most of it won't fly with the Voidseeker, won't it?
[ He's lifting that cigar back to his lips at that. ]
If you mean specifically those items on your list -- likely not.
But if you generally mean "treat him like a fellow human being"... well, I can't see how that won't, as you say, "fly" with him.
[ He nods to one side and gestures that you both step out towards one of the terraces. ] Honestly, Estanislao, Hikaru and I give him grief about most of that. I don't see how one more person doing so can be so bad.
[ A pause though as he slides a scrutinizing look your way: ] After all, the offering of friendship means seeing one another through the proverbial thick and thin, is it not?

I wanted to speak to you about the Voidseeker, actually. Specifically, how to be a friend to the man.

The smile he sends your way before he takes another puff is genuine though. Take it as you will. ]

Humanity sherpa. I like that.
[ He takes a breath. ] Well, let me ask you this, Estanislao: how are you a friend to those that matter to you?
